The Story of
Douglas Kuria Gikeri

Douglas was admitted to Neema in the year 2004 and left in the year 2013 after completing his secondary school education.

He was brought to Neema by his grandmother after both his parents passed on. His grandmother has since passed away as well. Douglas is a born again Christian, deeply committed to his faith.

At present, he is works as an employee in a meat shop in Kikuyu, Kiambu County. Douglas is also an upcoming artiste. He is both a composer and a song writer. He has written several gospel songs and recorded some of his work.

A number of his songs, sung in the Kikuyu language, are already on YouTube. Two of these are titled Hindi njega ya mahoya,” (A good time for prayer) and Ni aroka (He is coming).

Douglas is happily married and has one child. We thank God for his life and we pray that he gets to higher heights as is his faith and desire.

The Story of young
Joshua Karanja

Joshua is a learner in Junior Secondary School. He is 13 years old. Joshua joined Neema in the year 2021. Before joining us, Joshua had stayed out of school for a long time. At that time, he was staying with his mother and his step-father in a rented room in South Kinangop, Nyandarua County. For some reason, they had not taken the boy to school, and had reportedly physically abused him. They were also living an impoverished life and were unable to provide for his basic needs. At some point, a well-wisher had come by and offered to take Joshua to school and pay his school fees. At that point, the boy had started attending a nearby primary school. As fate would have it, one day, as he came from school as usual, he found no-one in the house. He was to later learn that his parents had left for an unknown place and left him. Up until this day, the boy does not know where his parents are. He stayed on in the neighborhood begging for food as it became impossible to continue going to school. After a few weeks of struggle, he was taken in by the area administration police. He stayed at the police station for one week and was then referred to the Children’s Office, and thereafter to Neema. Joshua likes to sing and is gifted in different co-curricular activities. You will often find him repairing or even modelling things out of his own imagination. He is very friendly and cooperative. One other thing about Joshua, as with most of the boys his age is that he is prone to losing things every now and then: a jacket, a book, a school bag or even a shirt. You might have to provide him with a new set of clothes every other time he needs to change. We believe it is part of growing up and he will become more responsible with time. We thank God for Joshua and we pray that his life will be a testimony of what God can do.

Charity Muthoni
Ngomano's Testimonial

I joined Neema in the month of August 2022. I came in as a matron as I was interested in working with children. I had a little knowledge about the Home but did not know exactly how they conducted their affairs. Since then, I have come to appreciate Neema, so much so that is has become like home to me. This is a place where you do not struggle to fit in regardless of your status or even your background. You just find yourself flowing with all that is going on. The staff members and children are friendly and easy to work with. When handling children, one finds concerns arising all the time, ranging from health, social, education or even spiritual issues which all need attention. The management responds quickly to all issues raised, which has been of great motivation to me. I am currently working as an office assistant. The change is good for me but I still help the new matron as I love to take care of the young ones. Some of the challenges I have had to overcome as I have taken care of the children have to do with their backgrounds. Some of them join Neema from such difficult circumstances that it takes a lot to handle them and to offer them unconditional love and care. I thank God for the opportunity to serve and I pray that the Lord continues to shower us with His grace every day.
